Odoo Community hosting, with the Odoo.sh workflow

Odoo.sh only runs Odoo Enterprise. Cloud Buddy hosts Odoo Community 14 to 20 with the same GitHub branch workflow: development, staging on a neutralized copy of production, and production, with daily backups we restore as a test every week. Or install Community 17 to 20 on your own server.

  • Community 14 to 20 on our cloud
  • Community 17 to 20 on your server
  • No Odoo licence needed

Community deserves a real workflow

Odoo Community is free and open source, yet the polished hosting workflow has so far come with Enterprise only. Here is what a Community project gets on Cloud Buddy.

  • Every branch is an environment

Push to GitHub and the branch builds: development branches with demo data and tests, staging on a copy of production, then production.

  • Staging on real data

Each staging build is a neutralized copy of production: outgoing emails are caught and scheduled actions are switched off, so you test safely.

  • Backups that are tested

Production is backed up daily, keeping 7 daily, 4 weekly and 3 monthly copies, and the newest backup is restored as a test every week.

  • Upgrades with OpenUpgrade

Test a major upgrade on a copy of production first. Community databases are upgraded with OpenUpgrade, one major version at a time.

  • Shell, SSH and an editor

A web shell with Odoo shell, Python and SQL consoles, SSH access and an online editor, as you would expect from Odoo.sh.

  • OCA modules in a click

The Apps tab lists the Odoo Community Association's modules for your version (14 to 19) and adds the ones you pick to a development branch.

What it costs, next to Odoo.sh

The same units as Odoo.sh: workers, storage and staging environments. For Community the bigger difference is that Odoo.sh can't run it at all, and that there is no licence to add.

Live on Community in three steps

Starting a new Community project, or moving one in from another host or from a server of your own.

  1. Create the project

Connect your GitHub repository and pick an Odoo version from 14.0 to 20.0, with Enterprise left unticked.

  2. Import or start fresh

Import an existing Community backup into staging to rehearse, then into production. The Odoo version and your custom modules are checked first.

  3. Go live

Point your domain at production and HTTPS is set up automatically. If you ever need Enterprise, you can switch the project later.

Community on a server you own

Prefer to keep Odoo on your own VPS? Cloud Buddy installs Odoo Community 17 to 20 on Ubuntu or Debian and keeps managing it.

  • Installed natively or with Docker, with your domain and HTTPS
  • Monitoring and downtime alerts
  • Daily backups with weekly restore tests
  • A daily security audit with guided fixes
  • Live logs and a recorded web terminal
  • Server Pro: $5 a month per server
  • The install is refunded in full if it fails

Questions about Odoo Community hosting

Does Odoo.sh host Odoo Community?

No. Odoo.sh only runs Odoo Enterprise databases, so a Community project needs another host. Cloud Buddy runs the same GitHub branch workflow (development, staging on a neutralized copy of production, and production) for Community and Enterprise, on versions 14 to 20, on our cloud or on your own server.

Do I need an Odoo licence to host Community?

No. Odoo Community is open source (LGPL v3) and free to use, so you only pay for hosting: $72 per worker, $0.25 per GB of storage and $18 per staging environment a month, the same prices as for Enterprise.

How is an Odoo Community database upgraded?

With OpenUpgrade, the Odoo Community Association's open-source migration tool, one major version at a time. You test the upgrade on a staging copy of production first, port your custom modules on that branch, then upgrade production.

Can I switch from Community to Enterprise later?

Yes. Tick Enterprise in Settings → Odoo version & Enterprise: the next production build installs the Enterprise base module after an update backup, and you register your Enterprise subscription inside Odoo.

How much does it cost to manage my own server?

Server Pro is $5 per server per month, or $2 per month billed yearly ($24 a year), and each server has its own subscription you can cancel on its own. Installing a new Odoo on a server is a one-time $150 per instance, 20% less on a server with yearly Server Pro, refunded in full if the install fails.

Which Odoo versions are supported?

Odoo 14.0 to 20.0 (versions 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20), in Community or Enterprise edition, built from the official Odoo images. When your version gets close to its end of support, the upgrade assistant lets you test the upgrade on staging before touching production.
