From a bare server to a live Odoo

Five steps in the dashboard, about 8 to 15 minutes of installing, and nothing to type on the server after the first command.

  1. Link your server

    Choose Server Pro for the server, then run the one command shown, as root. The server appears with its CPU, memory, disks and any Odoo already running.

  2. Choose your Odoo

    Pick 17.0, 18.0, 19.0 or 20.0, Community or Enterprise, an instance name, your domain, the database, language, country and apps.

  3. Check the sizing

    Workers, memory limits and cron threads come from the server's CPU and memory and the other Odoo running there. The math is shown, and you can change it.

  4. Review the plan

    The server checks itself and Cloud Buddy lists what is fine and what will be done for you. Nothing is asked of you on the server.

  5. Install and go live

    Pay once and follow the install live. The admin password is shown once, and HTTPS is added as soon as your domain points to the server.

What the installer handles by itself

Every change is listed in the live log and under What we did for you when the install is done.

  • Native or Docker

    Native with systemd, like Odoo's own guide, when the server's Python is 3.10 or newer; otherwise the official Odoo image with PostgreSQL in Docker.

  • Swap and memory

    Not enough memory? A swap file is added and made permanent. Small servers run Odoo in threaded mode with lower memory limits.

  • Disk space

    Short on disk? The package cache, old system logs and old installer files are cleaned, then the space is checked again.

  • Free names and ports

    A name, database or port already taken on the server gets the next free one, so several Odoo can live on one server.

  • Your domain and HTTPS

    nginx in front of Odoo with the database manager blocked, and a free Let's Encrypt certificate. DNS not ready? It's checked every hour for 7 days.

  • Hardened by default

    A random master password stored hashed, the database list off, its own system user and PostgreSQL role, and log rotation.

How it works

What your server needs

Most fresh VPS images qualify. The plan is checked before you pay, and only what can't be fixed automatically stops the install, with the reason.

  • Ubuntu or Debian, or another system with apt
  • A 64-bit Intel, AMD (amd64) or ARM (arm64) processor
  • Root access over SSH, and Python 3 for the link command
  • Internet access to GitHub and PyPI, or Docker Hub for the Docker method
  • Enough disk after the clean-up, and enough memory with swap
  • For HTTPS: a domain whose A record points to the server

Questions about installing Odoo on your server

How do I install Odoo 19 on Ubuntu?

With Cloud Buddy, link your Ubuntu server with one command, click Install Odoo, choose 19.0, Community or Enterprise and your domain, then review the plan: PostgreSQL, Python or Docker, nginx, HTTPS, swap and a firewall rule are set up for you in about 8 to 15 minutes. By hand, it means installing PostgreSQL and wkhtmltopdf, cloning Odoo's 19.0 branch into a Python virtual environment, writing its configuration and systemd service, and putting nginx with a certificate in front.

Can I host Odoo Enterprise on my own server?

Yes. Choose Enterprise when you install Odoo 17 to 20 on your server and the Enterprise code is installed for you; you still need your own Odoo Enterprise subscription from Odoo S.A., whose code you enter inside Odoo. Enterprise also runs on our cloud on every version from 14 to 20.

How much does it cost to manage my own server?

Server Pro is $5 per server per month, or $2 per month billed yearly ($24 a year), and each server has its own subscription you can cancel on its own. Installing a new Odoo on a server is a one-time $150 per instance, 20% less on a server with yearly Server Pro, refunded in full if the install fails.

What happens if an Odoo install on my server fails?

The installer removes everything it created, newest first, and the payment is refunded in full automatically. The install page shows what failed and what was removed, so you can fix the cause and try again.

Which servers can I link?

Any Linux server you can reach over SSH as root and that has Python 3: a VPS at AWS, Hetzner, DigitalOcean or Linode, or a machine of your own whose SSH port the platform can reach. Installing a new Odoo needs Ubuntu or Debian on a 64-bit Intel, AMD or ARM processor.
